API's wife shoots self with his service revolver

The wife of an assistant police inspector (ASI) attached to the Nigdi police station attempted to kill herself by shooting in the stomach with his service revolver on Monday.

According to the police, Anita Digambar Suryavanshi (37) shot herself at her Kamdhenu Society house in Poornagar, Chikhli. A profusely bleeding Anita was rushed to the hospital and undergoing treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Her condition was stated to be critical as the bullet entered from the front and came out from her back, police said.

Deputy commissioner (Zone III) Shahaji Umap said that Anita shot herself over a domestic dispute with her husband. Digambar was working with the Gondia Police and is currently posted as API since past four months. The couple has a ten-year-old daughter. Digambar’s statement could not be recorded as he was not in a positive state of mind, Umap added.

A number of senior police officials comprising additional commissioner (North Region) Suresh Kumar Mekala, additional commissioner (Crime) Shahaji Solunke visited the spot in the morning.
