Ambedkar award for Dalit Panther leader Namdev Dhasal

The Pune municipal corporation has selected social worker Kazi Mustaffa Ahmed and Muslim Samaj Prabodhan Sanstha of Hadapsar for the award for 2012.

Noted poet, writer and founder of Dalit Panther, Namdev Dhasal will be felicitated with the maiden Bharat Ratna Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Award instituted by the Pune Municipal Corproation (PMC).

The PMC selected Dhasal for the award for his contribution to society during a span of four decades. The award comprises Rs1,11,111 cash and a citation.  The civic body has not announced when the award will be presented.

Thinker and writer Raosaheb Kasbe has been adjudged for the Bharat Ratna Moulana Abul Kalam Azad National Integration and Social Harmony Award for  2011 by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Also, Vidyarhi Sahayyak Samiti will be felicitated with the award for the same year.

Mayor Vaishali Bankar declared the award on Thursday. Every year, the civic body felicitates a person and an institute for their contribution to society. The award comprises Rs25,000 cash and a citation each. The PMC has selected social worker Kazi Mustaffa Ahmed and Muslim Samaj Prabodhan Sanstha of Hadapsar for the award for 2012.
