Echoing the Congress view and slamming BJP’s prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi for repeatedly telling blatant lies, Rajya Sabha MP Amar Singh on Tuesday said that leaders like Modi who advocate Hindu nationalism cannot become the prime minister of pluralistic India.

The politician was delivering a lecture on ‘My Experiences with Indian Politics’ to the students of Maharashtra Institute of Technology School of Government (MIT-SOG).

Speaking to the media after the lecture, Singh said, “Hindu nationalism could be accepted in Nagpur that houses the RSS headquarters, but not by our secular nation.”

Recalling the cordial relationship that he shared with Modi, Singh said, “I feel sad when Modi tells blatant lies at public rallies and quotes Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel instead of Golwalkar Guruji, Deendayal Upadhyay or Shyamaprasad Mukherjee. He conveniently forgets that Sardar Patel was the home minister in Jawaharlal Nehru’s cabinet. Patel was upset with Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination and saffron brigade’s hand in it. I feel sad over Narendrabhai’s distortion of history for political expediency.”

Singh said that Congress-led UPA government has the maximum chance of coming at the Centre after the 2014 Lok Sabha elections as it has been in power for over one decade. He said that either it would be a government led by Congress or supported by it but BJP would never make it to the Centre.

Prof (group captain) DP Apte, (group captain) JK Joshi, TN More, RM Chitnis, Syali Gankar, LK Kshirsagar, VM Vadhai, principals and directors of different institutes on MIT Campus and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), New Delhi, vice president SN Pathan were present. MIT founder VD Karad had welcomed Singh on the campus.

Amar takes a dig at Akhilesh Yadav
Criticising Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Singh Yadav, Amar Singh said, “There is no question of Akhilesh’s image being tarnished after the communal riots as he does not have any image of his own. And his father Mulayam Singh Yadav has to be blamed for it’ Singh said that instead of Modi versus Rahul Gandhi, the 2014 Lok Sabha election would be secular versus communal ideologies.
