The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has followed suit of PMC and has announced alternative day (3 hours) water supply to the twin town starting from coming Thursday, considering the depleting water storage at the Pavana dam and monsoon showing no sign of revival. Everyday one half of the PCMC will be supplied water.

At a press meet called today, municipal commissioner, Rajiv Jadhav informed about the water cut measure and warned the citizens of twin town to be prepared for more water cut if the monsoon does not revive. He said that the situation over the impending water crises will be scrutinized on a weekly basis.

Talking about the slew of action plans, Jadhav said, "Tests on water quality at existing five lakes, borewells, and wells within PCMC will be carried out, so we can use them for secondary purposes. We are also planning to install 3/5 new borewells in every ward of PCMC." He said that even if the monsoon revives and replenishes the dams, for the next few months they will be using more flowing water in the three rivers that flows through the PCMC area, by building temporary bunds. There are public and privately owned 122 wells and 527 borewells within the twin town area limits.

Commissioner warned that stringent actions will be taken against misuse of tap water for car wash, construction purpose, gardening, swimming pools, leaking taps left un-repaired, usage of water pumps etc. He added that PCMC along with local corporators will be taking the onus of spreading importance of water conservation message to the people of the twin town in the coming days.

It was also informed that an independent monitoring cell will made available at sector 23 in Pradhikaran area, which will be available 24 hours to resolve citizen's water queries. Updating on monsoon status at the Pavana dam catchment area, commissioner said that there was only 155mm rainfall till July 14, compared to last years 1870mm till date and there is only 12.81% water storage at present in the dam.
