Pune: If you are doing something positive for the conservation of environment or chipping in any way to reduce the adverse impact of climate change, your life story can be used to inspire others by conferring upon you the title of `Alert Punekar of the Week'.
Alert (Association for Learning Education, Research and Training), an NGO engaged in climate change awareness would launch this unique initiative of recognising the work done by Punekars in this field. The NGO would launch this initiative by putting the 4-5 minute video clip of the selected Alert Punekar of the Week on June 5, which is celebrated as World Environment Day.
Alert founder and Rajya Sabha MP Vandana Chavan, who is also the city unit president of NCP, told dna that Alert would also re-launch its website on June 5, 2014. "Pune has many inspiring stories to be told in this field and there are many stalwarts like S D Mahajan, Hematai Sane, Jugal Rathi, Kiran Purandare and many others who are doing a lot of work to conserve environment or spread the message of environment-friendly life-style. We want to harness this treasure of contributors and want to multiply this process with our initiative," she said.
Chavan added, "We think that the clip on YouTube as well as our website can inspire many. If at all it creates awareness about making a car-pool instead of using one car per individual, our initiative would prove its worth."
She said that there are many individuals who are doing a great job and it is not difficult to find 52 Punekars for the next one year.
