Alcoholic orphan sexually abuses sister

Thanks to the alertness of a school teacher and a local child rights activist, a fourteen-year-old girl was rescued from the horror of getting molested on several occasions by her own elder brother.

The victim, a standard X student of a government school on Dehu Road, is an orphan who lives in a tenement with her brother.

The victim told dna that her brother’s dirty tactics started even before her mother’s death and once her mother had even hit her brother and threatened to lodge a case against him. 

However, the victim claims her actual ordeal began two months ago when her mother passed away. “My brother is a school drop-out and an alcoholic. After my mother passed away, I handle household chores and went to school. After I returned from school, he used to sneak in and try to watch me changing clothes. Scared, I preferrred to stay in school till late. When I turned up at home, he would abuse me and claim that I had an affair outside and hence came home late. I felt insecure in that house as my alcoholic brother would bring his friends home to drink and he would ask me to serve alcohol to them,” she said.

In her complaint, the victim alleged that her brother would try to sleep next to her on occasions and once even tried to touch her private parts.Fed up, the girl complained to her school teacher who referred her to local child rights activist Dr Yamini Adbe.

“I asked the girl why she didn’t turn to her relatives and she said they weren’t supportive since her mother has passed away due to an illness attached with stigma. Initially, the girl only complained of assault but later she revealed the abuse,” she said.

 

Events firm manager  held for stalking colleague

A 32-year-old manager with an events company was arrested by the Deccan police for allegedly molesting and outraging the modesty of a 25-year-old female employee.  He even threatened to kill her after she narrated the incident to her female colleagues in the office.

The manager has been identified as Shridhar Rapolu, a resident of Mumbai. In her complaint, the female employee, who works as an administrator in the firm, stated that she had joined the firm located on Fergusson College Road a few months back and from day one, Rapolu had been trying to be intimate with her and also speaking connotatively.

“On November 17, while having lunch in the office Rapolu started praising me and even said that he wanted to hug me,” she stated. On the next day Rapolu stalked her and demanded a hug. When she refused and offered to quit the job, he went out of the office.

The woman narrated the incident to a couple of her female colleagues. On this, Rapolu threatened to kill her. Scared, she left the job immediately and went to her hometown in Latur. Later, on December 6, she approached the police.

Senior police inspector Manohar Joshi said that when they produced the suspect in the court, the judge rejected his bail saying that he would be harmful if given bail and sent him to judicial custody.

He said that usually, in a IPC 354 case (molestation case) the suspect gets bail however looking at the seriousness of the matter, the court rejected his bail.
