In yet another incident of corporal punishment, a tuition teacher has been detained for allegedly hitting a six-year-old boy with a scale at his tuition class in the Camp area.

The incident took place on Friday afternoon and a case was in process of being registered by late evening, said Barkat Mujawar, inspector in-charge of Cantonment Police station. According to the parent's complaint, the boy is a first standard student of a school in Solapur bazar. He takes tuition classes from the detained teacher identified as Benedict Tambi, 43, who hails from Karnataka.

"The boy was in his tuition class till 4pm and returned home and silently went to sleep without speaking to anyone. Later, when his mother went to awaken him she found that the boy had fever. When she applied balm to his body she noticed marks on his back and that's when the boy told the mother about the incident. The angry mother confronted the teacher who allegedly said he hit the child as the latter had not completed homework," said Mujawar.

Meanwhile, dna spoke to the child who was undergoing medical examination at Sassoon General Hospital. "I had not completed homework and when the teacher asked me I said sorry. Actually, I had gone to sleep the previous day and couldn't complete my homework."
Mujawar said that after the medical examination a case would be registered.
