Pune: Around 93 medical graduates were commissioned into the Armed Forces Medical Services at a ceremony held at Armed Forces Medical College on Thursday.
A total of 121 graduates of the College, including five students from other nations, passed the final MBBS examinations of the MUHS in the winter session of 2013, and have been commissioned at the ceremony presided over by Director General AFMS Air Marshal DP Joshi. Of these, 71 graduates will be joining the army, 13 the Navy and nine will join the Air Force.
The pro-rata distribution to the three services is based on the available vacancies in the three services, along with the merit-cum-choice of the officer. The newly-recruited officers can also choose the nature of commission — either permanent or short service. Around 47 of the graduating batch have been granted permanent commission, while 46 have opted for short service commission.
