93 doctors commissioned to armed forces

59, 25 and 9 cadets commissioned to Army, Navy and Air Force respectively.

Ninety-three graduate doctors were commissioned to the Armed Forces Medical Services at the commissioning parade held at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) on Monday.

The ceremony was attended by the relatives of the graduating students and was presided over by director general Air Marshal DP Joshi along with other senior officers. A total of 113 medical cadets passed the final MBBS examination held by the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences (MUHS) including five cadets from foreign countries.

At the ceremony, 47 cadets received permanent commission and 46 were granted short service commission. Moreover, 59 cadets were commissioned into the army, 25 into the navy and 9 into the air force.

Lt Tejpal Singh Bedi led the parade as the parade commander.

This year, 14 medical cadets also qualified for the award of 25 different certificates of merit gold and silver medals and trophies for excellence achieved in the university examinations.

The Kalinga trophy for the best academic achievement was awarded to Fg Offr Ankit Batra and the prestigious President’s Gold Medal for the best outgoing medical cadet was awarded to Surg Sub Lt Ruchika Jha of the navy.

Accepting the salute, Joshi told the young doctors about their commitment towards the nation and its armed forces as well their lifelong promise to serve the ill and to uphold the values of compassion, care, humility and ethical conduct.

He exhorted them to rise to the highest level of self actualisation and professionalism through the noble careers they had chosen for themselves.
