Pune police commissioner Gulabrao Pol on Wednesday said that the public transport in Mumbai is much better than Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad where public buses breakdown often in the city.

He inaugurated the industrial task force at Quality Circle, Bhosari, MIDC. To curb the number of thefts in the industrial estate, the Pimpri Chinchwad Small Industries Association (PCSIA) has established its own ‘industrial task force.’

According to Pol, though there are more than 12 lakh vehicles plying on Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad roads, lack of awareness on helmet usage is leading to 60 per cent more accidents as compared to Mumbai.

Meanwhile, authorised licenses will be provided to security guards of the company for using guns, etc. He revealed plans to make certain rules to prohibit illegal goods of scrap-dealers.
Meanwhile, on the issue of task force, CP asked local MLA Vilas Lande to take initiatives to organise a high-level meeting with state home minister along with the industrialists to set up separate police stations to curb the theft menace. Even the local MP’s and MLA’s should built up the buildings for police stations at industrial estate.

PCSIA president Nitin Bankar, former president Suresh Mehre, secretory Sandeep Belsare, Vilas Lande etc. were present at the event.

As per the plan, the industrial task force would work on an experimental basis. The funds will be jointly contributed by industrialists.

A separate vehicle would be purchased for patrolling purpose and two well-equipped policemen and an industry representative will be deployed for daily patrolling. The approximate monthly expenditure for the entire plan will be Rs70,000 and it will be contributed by industrialists at Pimpri-Chinchwad, especially in Bhosari industrial estate. Initially, the industrial task force will monitor sector 7 and sector 10, where maximum thefts are reported.

The industrialists were told to set up it on a temporary basis and assured that the issue would be taken up with the state home department requesting them to provide adequate manpower and vehicles but added that this action would take time. There are nearly 8,000 industries in Bhosari MIDC.
