Pune: Continuing its drive against drunken driving in the city, the traffic police department, have caught 54 drivers in the past three days.Ahead of Holi, the city traffic department started their drive to raise an alarm among the commuters who often cross the line during the festival. The drive was conducted for four hours each day. Deputy commissioner of police (traffic), Vishwas Pandhare, said, “As a precautionary measure we have started this drive so that people can get the message and refrain themselves from driving under the influence of alcohol.”
Pandhare said, “After the procurement of 50 new breath analyzer we were able to hold the drive across the city more effectively. This weekend we will be intensifying the drive so that the number of accidents due to drunken driving can be curbed. City traffic department have identified the areas where they will be intensifying the drive in the next few days. Senior police inspector (planning), Rajendra Kamire said, “We will hold special patrolling at night in Koregaon Park, Baner and Hinjewadi as more than 70 per cent of the cases are registered from these areas.”
