The lure of money led a 25-year-old woman to leave her middle-class parents in New Delhi and work as an escort in Pune. The incident came to light when a friend of the woman’s brother arrived in Pune and engaged escort services and was shocked to see the girl amongst escort group and informed her parents in Delhi.

The parents arrived in Pune and tipped off police who conducted a raid and found that the girl lived with 12 other women and a pimp who paid her Rs7,000 per day for her services.

Acting on the tip of the woman’s mother and elder brother who came from New Delhi, the city police of Zone III detained 12 women and 14 male members, including four pimps and three hotel managers who were running a sex racket.

The incident came to light on Wednesday when a woman and her son hailing from New Delhi approached deputy commissioner of police (Zone III) Shahji Umap claiming that their daughter has been forced into prostitution racket in Pune and pleaded to rescue her. The mother personally went to the pimp and verified her daughter’s identity. The mother had got a tip-off from her son’s friend who had come from New Delhi to Pune for job purpose.
He called the escort pimp and found that the woman was his friend’s sister. The man had immediately alerted his friend and the family rushed to Pune.

DCP Umap said, “Acting on this tip-off, we sent a decoy client to the pimp. He then called the decoy at a Pimpri-based hotel demanding Rs40,000. Accordingly, we laid a trap and rescued the Delhi-based woman along with two others from Kolkata and a few hailing from Pune itself. But the family was shocked when the woman claimed that she is happy in this flesh trade and earned good money. The woman told her mother that she would continue this trade even if taken home as she earned Rs7,000 per day.”

According to the police officer, the mother had initially thought her daughter had run away from home as she was of marriageable age. They had four children and belong to middle-class family.
Umap said that all women lived together in a posh society in Pimple-Saudagar and had told neighbours that they are pursuing a postgraduate course and working in call center.

“On this tip-off, we raided various hotels in Hinjewadi, Chinchwad, Sangvi and Pimpri and rescued another nine girls and 14 men. Seven men were customers, most of them are from wealthy families and working in KPO and IT sectors. We are scrutinising the owners of flats in which these women and pimps stayed on rent. We will take action against owners if they fail to provide details. Three managers and owners of the hotel have been arrested for carrying out such business,” he said.

On Thursday, all were produced before the court of judicial magistrate (first class) and remanded in magisterial custody.
