Pune: It seems that the 200 girl students staying at the hostel of G H Raisoni Institute of Technology and Management in Wagholi will have to wait for better quality of food served at the hostel mess, as the college authorities have still not come up with any solution to the issue. They have asked the students to continue eating the same food.
The students had gone on a hunger strike last week, after they found insects in the food served at the canteen and did not eat the food for two days.
One of the students said that the college management had assured them of coming up with a solution by Monday. However, till date the college failed to give any commitment.
"On Tuesday, the college authorities told us that they have asked the present catering contractor to submit a report and after that they will think of changing the contractor," she said.
The student added that after the incident, the quality of food in the college mess has been improved but the students are demanding that the college either change the contractor or make the food optional so that students can go out and have food.
"Since the exams are round-the-corner, it is difficult for the students to go out and have meals. We have demanded the college authorities to change the catering contractor," said another student.
Ajit Sanghavi, the director of the institute said that they are planning to change the food vendor and the process has been initiated in this regard. "We have also appointed some people to look after the quality of the food served in the mess, till the new vendor comes,"he added.
