In a tragic incident, two teenagers on a scooter were knocked down and killed by a state transport (ST) bus on Thursday at 5.30 pm on Shankarsheth Road near Hotel Seven Loves Chowk.
The ST bus (MH-14-BT 1183) left from Swargate bus terminal and was on its way to Patan in Satara district.

The ST bus hit a two-wheeler (MH12-CE-341). The deceased were identified as Shriniwas Mahadu Gaikwad (15) and Manthan Anil Devkul (16), both residents of Kashiwadi in Bhawani Peth.

The bus was going from Swargate to Seven Loves Chowk in the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lane and the two-wheeler was coming from the opposite direction. The bus was going at high speed when suddenly the two-wheeler came in front of the bus, said the police.

Senior police inspector Rajendra Kadam of Khadak police station said, “The ST bus was going at high speed in the BRTS Lane. After impact, one of the boys was dragged along with the bus. The injured duo were taken to Sassoon Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.”

An angry mob broke the window panes of the bus.

The police claim the traffic flow was not disrupted as the accident took place in the BRTS lane. The police have taken the driver of the ST bus, Vijay Duthendaram Patil (37), resident of Satara, into custody.
