16 traders face action for evading LBT

PMC is expected to recover Rs18 lakh on goods worth Rs4.5 crore

As a part of it’s special drive against evasion of Local Body Tax (LBT), sixteen traders from the city have faced action for evading LBT on goods worth Rs 4.5 crore within a span of one week. PMC is expected to recover Rs 18 lakh as LBT from these traders.

After receiving the green signal from the state government on November 20, the PMC’s LBT cell conducted several raids on the traders who were evading LBT. Within seven days they have found 16 traders who are supposed to pay LBT to PMC but till date, they have not paid a single rupee.
Rajendra Jagtap, additional commissioner of PMC said, “ Initially, we are taking action against those traders who have not paid any LBT ever since it has been introduced. The action will continue till March, that is end of the financial year.”

PMC is expecting recovery of Rs 18 lakh of LBT from the goods worth Rs 4.5 crore which the cell has found on which LBT has not been paid yet.

Vilas Kanade, head of PMC’s LBT cell said, “The raids are being conducted in various parts of the city and the traders who have faced action include garment traders, liquor shop owners and also small scale industries.”
