Doctors pronounced Qasab was dead after he was duly hanged as per process.
In absence of a hangman to execute the death sentence of Kasab, the terrorist was hanged by the officials from the Yerawada Central Jail.
The highly placed sources in the jail said, “The hangman of Yerawada jail had retired and the position is vacant for the last some years. However, there is no law that only hangman can execute a death sentence. Therefore the decision that Kasab’s death sentence will be executed by a jail officer was taken and Kasab was hanged around 7.30 am.”
Kasab's mercy petition was rejected by the President Pranab Mukherjee on November 8.

Kasab's dengue was, after all, a clever ruse used by the authorities, who checked if Kasab was medically fit for hanging.

'Pak refused to accept letter on decision to hang Kasab'
India had informed in advance Pakistan and the family members of Ajmal Kasab about the decision to hang the 2008 Mumbai attack terrorist but Islamabad refused to acknowledge the letter, the home minister said.

As many as 100 people gathered outside the Yerwada jail after the news broke out.
People celebrated shouting "Vande Mataram, Bharat mata ki jai" outside the jail on Wednesday morning.
Some people were even distributing sweets outside the jail.
