Investigations of the Chatuhshrungi police have revealed that the officials of the University of Pune mainly used to change marks of foreign students for their safety.

Investigations of the Chatuhshrungi police have revealed that the officials of the University of Pune mainly used to change marks of foreign students for their safety.

According to the police, the reason for selecting foreign students was the amount ‘handsome’ money they used to pay. Also, that there were less chances of raising questions over their changes in marks as their certificate would not be seen by any Indian student.

Speaking to DNA, investigating officer and assistant police inspector Mahesh Bolkotgi of Chatuhshrungi police station said, “In our previous interrogations of arrested suspects, we came to know that more foreign national students have indulged into such activities. They used to approach Gaus Shaikh and Salim Majid Shaikh to take their help in order to clear their subjects.

“After that, the duo used to take their details such as seat numbers, names and subject codes. Later, they would pass these details to the officials of the examination department,” he added.

The investigators are of the opinion that interestingly, students from Iran, Iraq and Oman are not attending classes in the colleges. “After coming to know about the involvement of foreign nationals in the scam, we went through some of the records and came to know that there are some students who haven’t been clearing a single academic year for three years. Those students used to take help of Guas and Salim,” an investigator said.

The police have arrested two Omani nationals who are the students of Abeda Inamdar College. They have been identified as Almari Sami Hamud (22) and Obed Ahmed Rehman Aawad (29), both staying on rent at Kondhwa.

Bolkotgi further said, “There is a possibility that more students have got such kind of benefits in the past as well.”
