Pawar calls for meeting in Delhi to expedite Pune Metro project

Expressing the need to expedite the Metro project in Pune, Union minister for agriculture Sharad Pawar has called a meeting at Krishi Bhavan in New Delhi on January 10.

Pawar has asked the Union minister for urban development Kamal Nath to attend the meeting and hear out the elected representatives from Pune.

Pawar, on Sunday, had invited leaders from various political parties to discuss the issues involving the Pune Metro project.
City mayor Vaishali Bankar, deputy mayor Deepak Mankar, group leaders in Pune Municipal Corporation Ashok Yenpure (BJP), Arvind Shinde (Congress), Ashok Haranawal (Shiv Sena), Vasant More (MNS) and Subhash Jagtap (NCP) attended the meeting.
“Traffic congestion is a big issue in Pune and there is a need to ease it out. The two municipal corporations of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad should sort out their issues between them,” he said.
After the Metro project was proposed on the Vanaz-Ramwadi and Swargate-Pimpri-Chinchwad route, there were differences of opinion on how much money should each municipal corporation contribute for the project.

The stretch between Vanaz to Ramwadi has been cleared by the state government and has been sent to the Union government for its final approval. The proposal has been sent to eight different ministries for its clearances.

Pawar said that he would discuss this issue with the leaders of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation and also the issue of raising money for the ambitious project.
