33 activists of Hindu Munnani arrested for hartal-related incidents in Coimbatore

At least 33 activists of Hindu Munnani and some other Hindu outfits were arrested in connection with violence, including hurling petrol bombs on a hotel, during a bandh observed in Coimbatore on Friday.

Three persons, involved in hurling four petrol and kersene filled bottles on a restaurant in the city, which was open till late last night, were arrested in the early hours of Saturday, police said.

The offenders were identified through the CCTV attached to the restaurant, they said.

Similarly, 30 workers were taken into custody on charges of forcing the shopkeepers and traders to down their shutters during the hartal and also pelting stones at buses, police said.

The bandh was called in Tirupur, Nilgiris and Coimbatore district to protest 'attacks' on Hindu Munnani leaders.
