Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt has filed a petition before the Nanavati-Mehta commission requesting it to ensure compliance with the Gujarat high court order which had directed the state government to submit to it all documents sought by Bhatt.

In his petition, Bhatt has accused the state government of not submitting all the documents it had been directed to submit before the commission for the IPS officer’s perusal.

Out of the 47 documents sought by Bhatt, the state government had submitted only 15. Regarding its failure to submit the rest of the documents, the government had given different reasons such as ‘records not maintained’ or ‘secret’, the IPS officer has stated in his petition.

Somnath Vatsa, the advocate representing Bhatt before the commission, said that precious time of the commission was being wasted because of the government.

“The state government had told the Gujarat high court that it would submit all the records to the commission. Now it is giving different reasons for not submitting all the documents,” the lawyer said.

The next hearing of Bhatt’s application is fixed for November 2, 2012.
