As the CBI proceeds with its investigation in the Sadik Jamal fake encounter case, the agency is stumbling upon new facts and personalities linked to the encounter. Sources in CBI claimed that an assistant commissioner of police (ACP) in Mumbai may also have played a role in the encounter. However, the sources refused to reveal the ACP’s name.

Ketan Tirodkar, an accused in the case, had revealed to the probe agency that the ACP was present when Sadik was handed over to personnel of the Gujarat police, the sources said.

The CBI has widened its investigation in the Sadik encounter case in the light of the new revelations made by Tirodkar. Interestingly, some of these revelations seem to contradict the affidavit submitted by him before the MCOCA court and the Gujarat high court, the sources said.

So far, Tirodkar has named two police officials as having a role in the Sadik encounter case, the sources said. After Tirodkar’s latest revelations, the CBI is focusing more on the Mumbai connections of the case than on the Gujarat police, the sources added.

No Mumbai police officer has so far been called for questioning by the CBI in connection with the case. However, the sources said that the sleuths investigating the encounter are waiting for the go-ahead from senior officials of the agency before summoning some Mumbai police officers for questioning.

A police inspector of the Mumbai police, Pradeep Sharma, is also believed to be under the CBI scanner in the Sadik encounter case following the revelations made by Tirodkar.
