Suspended IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt has written to the Nanavati and Mehta commission asking the panel to consider the letter of former chief minister, the late Amarsinh Chaudhary, to decide whether chief minister Narendra Modi should be summoned or not.
Chaudhary, a former president of the state Congress, had written a letter to the probe panel in 2002 accusing the government of indifference in curbing the riots. Chaudhary had also claimed that he, along with senior Congress leader Naresh Raval, had informed the CM about the situation at Gulbarg society and the threat to the life of former MP Ahsan Jafri.
Bhatt told DNA that Chaudhary had given a clear account of the state government’s inaction. “It is sufficient basis to summon chief minister Modi for questioning before the commission,” Bhatt said.
