Senior Congress leader Shankarsinh Vaghela launched a scathing attack on chief minister Narendra Modi at a public rally organised at the launch of his party’s ‘Sardar Sandesh Yatra’ at Veraval on Wednesday.

“To get the votes, the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) can go to any length. Narendra Modi is responsible for terrorist attack on Akshardham and the Godhra carnage,” Vaghela alleged.

“To attract voters, Modi and BJP can do anything. If people remember, after the attack on Akshardham, police found a chit where it was claimed that attackers were terrorists. A thief will not carry his identity and address proof with him while going for a robbery. Modi is responsible for the attacks on Akshardham temple and the Godhra carnage. He was also responsible for the communal riots after the Godhra incident,” Shankersinh Vaghela said at the rally. Alleging that the present state government was giving empty promises to the people of the state, Vaghela, fondly known as Bapu, said, “For just a few days of Sadbhavana, he spent Rs200 crore but he is reluctant to wear a Rs20 cap offered by a Muslim citizen.”

He added that 2012 will be the year of ‘Baarmu” (a ritual performed on the 12th day after the death of a person) for Narendra Modi and the BJP in Gujarat.
