If the allegations in Sanjiv Bhatt's affidavit submitted to the apex court are to be believed then the details of developments in the CBI investigations in the Sohrabuddin case were leaked to the state government. This is despite the fact that the state cops themselves are accused in the fake encounter.

Earlier Bhatt had in his affidavit stated that additional advocate general, Gujarat high court, Tushar Mehta had got hold of a letter meant for investigating officer in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case, Amitabh Pathak. The letter was a status update on investigations and was not supposed to be leaked out to anyone in the government. However, Bhatt claims that the said letter was forwarded by Mehta to IPS officer Geetha Johri on March 25, 2010, who was summoned by CBI to find out her role in fake encounter investigations.

Citing another email, Bhatt also said that secretary, GC Murmu, then posted as secretary, law and order, forwarded a detailed note from his official id seclno@quiarat.qov.in to Mehta on July 29, 2010. Murmu had praised two suspended and now jailed IPS officer DG Vanzara and Abhay Chudasma for having done commendable work.

Other officer GL Singhal who is a suspect in Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case is also mentioned in the note. The note, according to the affidavit, further stated that direction should be sought to prevent the CBI from further investigation.

Mehta, however, sent nine different documents to Mahesh Jethmalani and Mitesh Amin, advocates for former home minister Amit Shah. Bhatt had mentioned that all the documents were designed to provide defence to Amit Shah.
