If you have not seen American police except in Hollywood films, then don't miss the Sardar Patel World Police Unity Tour which starts on January 9 from Gandhi Ashram. As many as 100 cops -- 50 from USA and 50 from Gujarat -- will take part in this cycling tour from Ahmedabad to Karamsad, the birth place of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

Addressing a press conference here on Tuesday, Dr Vithal Dhaduk, chairman of the tour, said that the rally is being organised to spread awareness about police officials serving in the state as well as to condemn terrorism across the globe.
Talking to mediapersons Harry Phillip, executive director of the Unity Tour told reporters that after a US police team saw a statue of Sardar Patel at Albert Jasani at Royal Albert Palace, they decided to pay a tribute to the Iron Man of India.

For the past few years, the US police have been organising a cycle rally from ground zero (where the terrorists struck on September 11, 2001) to Washington D.C. “Initially there were 18 police officials for the rally, and the number increased to 1250, “ James Waldron III, chief financial officer, Unity Tour, said.

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi will address the rallyists on the evening of January 9. The tour will cover a distance of 80 kms from Ahmedabad to Karamsad.

“The police officers will keep on meeting the villagers on the way and spread the message of hardships suffered by policemen while performing their duties.” Dr. Dhaduk said.

The tour will end in Karamsad on Jan 10 and all the officials will take part in the Vibrant Kite Festival that has been organised there. “We will also travel from Ahmedabad to Narmada and participate in the proposed foundation ceremony to be held before celebration of Vibrant Gujarat.” Dr. Dhaduk said.

He also laid emphasis on the interaction between the US police and Gujarat police on various aspects of policing in both the countries.

The tour has been organised jointly with the help of the USA police's 'We care, We Share' Foundation and the Gujarat government. The New Jersey Policemen's Benevolent Association has also declared May 9 as 'Sardar Patel Day'.
