7th Pay Commission: Government employees of this BJP-ruled state get DA hike as Diwali gift

The announcement, made before Diwali, was in line with the recommendations of the 7th pay commission.

This year's Diwali brought many cheers to the government employees of another BJP-ruled state. After Uttar Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh government announced a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for its employees.  

The announcement, made before Diwali, was in line with the recommendations of the 7th pay commission

After the hike, the DA and DR for the employees have raised from 7 per cent to 9 per cent, a report by Zee Business said. 

The hike will be effective from July 1 which means that the employees will also get arrears for four months. 

The Pema Khandu government said in a notification that the DA hike would be applicable only for the state government employees and not the institutions receiving grants-in-aid from the government.

The arrears will be credited in the bank accounts of the employees. 

Earlier, the Uttar Pradesh government had announced last week a gift for its over 14 lakh employees. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath approved on November 2 the proposal to hike dearness allowance (DA) by 2 per cent for the government employees. 

These government employees will now get 9 per cent DA, in line with the central government employees, as per the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. The DA hike itself will translate into a salary hike of Rs 500 to Rs 2,500 per month.

The DA hike will be effective from July 1, 2018. The arrears will not be credited into the bank accounts but will instead be deposited into the provident fund (PF) account of the employees. 

The Uttar Pradesh government had announced a 30-day bonus for its 14.02 lakh employees as a Diwali gift. It would put an additional burden of Rs 967.63 crore on the government.
