Petty politics
While replying to LK Advani’s charges of in Parliament that the UPA government had entered into some secret agreement with Pakistan on Kashmir under pressure from the US, the Prime Minister is reported to have lost his cool and remarked that the NDA government did not inform the Parliament about the details of meetings between Jaswant Singh and Strobe Talbot (‘PM turns the heat on Advani”, DNA, March 4). When they are cornered, the leaders of the Congress Party are in the habit of harping on what the NDA did or did not do when they were in power. This approach is irresponsible because for the omissions and commissions of the NDA the BJP has been punished by the people in the subsequent election. The PM should avoid polemics to score brownie points over the opposition.

Modernise police stations
This refers to N Raghuraman’s letter to super cop D Sivanandan illustrating his ‘memorable’ experience at the Sahar police station (‘Get your force to tidy up their act’, DNA, March 6). If this is the condition of an ISO 9002 certified police station, you can very well imagine the pathetic condition in the not-so-lucky police stations and chowkies. ISO authorities should immediately withdraw the certification. The police chief should see to it that police stations have the cops are well dressed and behave well with visitors/complainants.

Stop such talks
Once again our Prime Minister made a statement that the decision to hold the recently concluded foreign secretary level talks was a “calcalated” one (‘Prime minister won’t budge on Pakistan’, DNA, March 6). He has also said that dialogue is the only way forward. How many times have we had such talks and how many times have we agreed on even a single issue. Even 10 years from now, these talks will not yield anything. Instead of strengthening internal security, the home ministry is being party to such talks which will never have any meaning. This lip service is not going to stop Pak-sponsored terrorism.
