Google has introduced a new app called Science Journal for Android which “aims to bring out that inner scientist in all of us". For those aspiring scientists, the app claims to turn your device into a laboratory full of experiments by capturing data from the device’s various sound, light and motion sensors. The app is currently available on the Google Play Store.  Google also stated that it plans to open source the app later this year.

Not only does it record the information but it can all be arranged on a graph for easy comparison against other measurements. Google partnered with California-based, "public learning laboratory" Exploratorium to design kits to accompany the new app. They include craft materials and/or extra sensors to help supplement the data or measure variables which a smartphone is not capable of. Google will also explain how to assemble the materials by yourself, if required.

The company stated via its blog post, “We believe anyone can be a maker or a scientist. Making is looking at your everyday life and creating projects that improve the world around you and science is observing the world around you and figuring out how it works.”
