Mohammed Ajmal Amir Kasab on Tuesday narrated his story — from his humble beginnings as a “decorator” to becoming a fidayeen — in the court. Speaking in Hindi interspersed with a few Urdu words, he did not, however, narrate it in a chronological order. This is a translation of his account.

Terror at CST
“At CST, Abu Ismail and I started firing at the public with our AK-47 rifles. Ismail was throwing grenades also. I was just firing. We went ahead towards the hall. The police caught up with us and started firing at us. We retaliated. Ismail took position behind the trains that were parked. I took position behind him. I fired at the police.

“Whatever was seen in the pictures (referring to CCTV images) shown here was correct. We walked towards the road (from the subway) and then came back. We came towards platform number one and went to the foot-over bridge (lohe ka pul). We got onto the bridge and got off on the road adjoining the bridge (Badruddin Tyabji Marg).

“I saw some cars and tried to get into one, as you could see in the CCTV grabs. All cars were locked, so we marched on. I loaded a magazine in the AK-47 rifle, so did Ismail. I saw one ‘witness’ running. Ismail told me to stop him. I fired at him. I saw Ismail firing inside a house there. The person ran from the spot. Ismail told me to come back.
