The railway station of the city’s latest business district at Parel is finally getting another foot bridge. The existing and only foot bridge at the south-end of the station is saturated and commuters have to actually queue up to take this bridge. Many prefer to jump and hop tracks to the fast train platform to avoid the crowd.

With no space at the south end, the railways have now begun to build a new foot bridge at the Dadar end of the station. ‘’The footbridge will ease the existing pressure till we build one more platform that has been proposed at the station,’’ a senior official said.

With teeming crowds and increasing number of offices, the ministry of railways have approved an additional platform with a link to the footover bridge. DNA had first reported about the development first in February and later in October 2011.

Commuters at Parel have been complaining to railways about massive crowds at the station and the inability to use the jam-packed footover bridge. Besides being the new business district, Parel also has the highest number of hospitals about seven—, including major ones like Tata Hospital, KEM and Wadia hospital, and many patients use this station find it difficult to enter and exit the platforms.

The proposed additional platform at Parel would mean that trains coming from Mumbai CST will have a platform on both sides of the train.

The new footover bridge that is being built is at the Dadar end of the existing station and would have a landing on all the platforms.
