A Malad-based widow and her alleged boyfriend tried to kill her 19-year-old daughter Baibhavi Pednekar as she wanted a share of the money her mother had deposited in the bank after selling their Dahisar flat.
Pednekar was not happy with the relationship between her mother, Smita and doctor Sanjay Chitaudiya, so she wanted to live separately along with her brother. Consequently, she demanded her share of the money from her mother.
Pednekar's condition is now stable but she fears that she will be attacked again. The state women's commission has intervened in the case and has written to the deputy commissioner of police, Thane rural, and asked for a proper inquiry into the case, requesting that the absconding accused be arrested soon. Deputy secretary Kanta Pandit of the state women's commission said, “The organisation is ready to provide for all her needs. We will soon begin counselling the girl since she has been deeply affected by the incident.”
A source said, “Pednekar's college friends have come to support her and a few friends are constantly with her in the hospital.”
Pednekar was found in an unconscious condition in Kasara on January 28 by the Kasara police while they were patrolling. The police admitted her to a local hospital. When she regained consciousness, they took her statement and arrested her mother, Smita for trying to kill her, along with her boyfriend Sanjay. Sanjay is absconding and the police are looking for him.
Based on the statement given by the victim, an officer from Kasara police station said, “Her mother and Chitaudiya hired a car and took her to Nashik on January 27. On returning the next day, they took the girl into the bushes and strangled her. Assuming her to be dead, they dumped her body there and returned home.”
Baibhavi said, “Chitaudiya used to visit our home for my elder brother's treatment. That's when he entered into a relationship with my mother. Two years ago when my father died, they sold the Dahisar flat and shifted to a Malwani apartment on rent.”
