A thirty six-year-old housewife committed suicide by jumping from the 19th floor of her residential tower in Lokhandwala, Kandivli (East), on Tuesday morning. She left behind a suicide note in which she says she was upset because her husband, a singer in nightclub, was having an extra marital affair.

This is the fourth incident of unnatural death in Crimson Tower in the last few years. According to the police, Mamta Jha lived on the 19th floor along with husband Mukesh, 40, son Sanket, 15, her father-in-law and mother-in-law.

On Tuesday, around 7.25am, Mamta jumped from the staircase window of the 19th floor.  The building watchman heard a loud thud and found her shattered body lying in pool of blood. He immediately informed her family.

The Samta Nagar police were also informed about the incident. Mamta was taken to Bhagwati hospital. “In the suicide note, recovered from her residence, she mentions that she was upset as her husband was having an affair. The couple often had arguments on this matter. She also did not like her husband’s addiction to alcohol,” said senior police inspector Anant Kenjale, Samta Nagar police station.

“At the time of the incident the entire family was home,” said Kenjale. “Mamta’s relatives live in Delhi and they have been informed. Her brother reached Mumbai in the evening. We are waiting for the post mortem report,” he added.

“I don’t know why she committed suicide. She did not say anything. The entire family saw her go out. The police will investigate,” said a relative.

Society members of the Crimson Tower were tight-lipped after people started saying that it was a haunted tower. They even locked the gates, not allowing access to the media. They put up a small note on the building wall about Mamta’s death.

“People are saying that this is haunted society but we have been living here for several years and we don’t believe so. A carpenter died three years ago after he lost his balance and plunged to his death. A woman committed suicide and she was not even a resident,” said Sameer Jha, Mamta’s nephew.  The police will register a case of abetment of suicide against the husband, on her brother’s allegations
