The Borivli police arrested a woman on Monday who allegedly duped a Borivli-based computer dealer to the tune of Rs25 lakh.

She took 109 computers on monthly rent as she was starting her own business process outsourcing office in Borivli. Anita Shukla, 28, is a resident of Malad.

The police said that the complainant, Jitendra Vora, 34, a resident at Natakwala lane, Borivli, runs a shop ‘Arihant Infotech’ for selling and repairing computers.

“Vora filed a complaint against Shukla at the Borivli police station in December 2010. His complaint stated that Shukla had approached him in July 2008 for more than 100 computers for her BPO at Rokadiya lane in Borivli (West),” said a police officer.

“The duo made an agreement on August 7, 2008 and she took 109 computers on monthly rent for Rs2.18 lakh. Shukla gave a post-dated cheque of Rs15 lakh to Vora but it bounced,” said Bhagwan Chate, a senior inspector. The police said that she shifted her office to Poisar in Kandivli and stopped paying the rent and also started ignoring his calls. After trying for several months to trace her, he finally approached the police.

“She was remanded in police custody till February 2,” said Chate. The police have recovered Rs10 lakh. They are trying to trace the computers. “There are cases registered against her in the Economic Offences Wing,” said an officer.
