Civil society representatives led by Anna Hazare will meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday to explain their stand on the Lokpal Bill. The meeting assumes significance since the activists believe it will help them iron out their differences with the government over the draft bill.
Hazare and his team on Friday concluded a fruitful meeting with the top brass of BJP, including LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj, over the formation of a strong Lokpal. RTI activist Arvind Kejriwal made a presentation highlighting the differences between the government’s and civil society’s version of the draft bill.
“They were concerned about Lokpal’s selection process and wanted to know how integrity and objectivity would be ensured in the selection of Lokpal,” former IPS officer Kiran Bedi told DNA.
“If Mrs Gandhi is open to listening the way others have done, it would be good for everyone. We want to apprise her on why we have kept a particular provision in our bill,” she added.
