A 40-year-old man was allegedly killed by his wife and her boyfriend on November 10 last year. His son too is allegedly involved in the murder conspiracy.

The police are also investigating the role of the man’s mother, who allegedly had an extramarital affair. On Saturday, four people - including the man’s mother’s lover — were arrested for the murder.

Malad resident, Naresh Bhoir, was poisoned to death by his family members and his body dumped into the sea. The accused were reportedly upset with his womanising, drinking habit and abusive nature. This was revealed during the initial questioning of the arrested accused.

“The questioning of the accused is on,” said J Hargude, assistant commissioner of police, Malvani division.

The police said Naresh, an electrician, was served poisoned food by his wife, Laxmi.

After he lost consciousness, 22-year-old Salim Gulami, Laxmi’s boyfriend, allegedly smothered him with a blanket. Naresh’s mother Ganga’s boyfriend Gajanand Yeru, 53, strangulated him with a nylon rope. Naresh’s son Preetam, 19, is also said to be involved in the murder conspiracy.

“After tying the body with stones, the accused dumped it in the middle of the sea where they went in a small boat,” said the source.

A missing complaint was registered 11 days later by Naresh’s sister Sangeeta Acharya, when she was told by her mother and sister-in-law that he had not returned home.

Later Acharya learned that Gajanand, in a drunken state, had been telling people that it was he who killed Naresh. She informed the police, who arrested them after verification.

Naresh’s relatives said: “Although he drank, he was not a drunkard.”

A close relative of the family said: “He could have been killed possibly because he opposed the extramarital affairs of his wife and mother.”
