Why can't Maharashtra replace Bombay in all state acts: Shiv Sena

Lauding Narendra Modi government for deciding to replace the word 'Bombay' with 'Gujarat' in all the Acts and rules in force in that state, Shiv Sena has demanded that Maharashtra government should also follow the suit.

"Why can't our Congress-NCP government also replace the word 'Bombay' with 'Maharashtra' in all the Acts and rules in force in the state," Shiv Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray said.

"Why can't Maharashtra manage what Gujarat has achieved," the Sena leader said.

In the budget session of state legislature, scheduled to commence in July, Maharashtra government should pass a legislation to this effect, Uddhav said.

Gujarat Assembly in March passed a special Bill to replace Bombay with Gujarat in the names of all the Acts. 'The Gujarat Short Titles (Amendment) Act, 2011, has been notified in the extraordinary Gazette of Gujarat government.
