A day after Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray criticised the wedding of Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, party executive president Uddhav Thackeray said the wedding is Sania’s personal problem and she can lead her life the way she wants to, on Saturday.

Uddhav also said that the matter was a non-issue for his party. “A marriage between two people is entirely personal. Sania has every right to lead her life the way she wants to, we don’t want to interfere in it. Saamna has clarified its stand on Sania and the issue is over for us,” he said.

The Saamna edit on Friday had criticised Sania for her decision to marry Malik. “Had her heart been Indian, it wouldn’t have beaten for a Pakistani. The Pakistanis look at India as an enemy, not only on the sports field but also otherwise. She cannot play for India after her marriage as she will be a Pakistani citizen after that,” the Saamna edit had stated.

Uddhav avoided talking against Amitabh Bachchan and the Khans of Bollywood. “We are celebrating the golden jubilee year of Maharahstra and everybody who feels for Maharashtra, should come and participate in the grand celebrations we have planned,” he said.

The Shiv Sena has planned a grand celebration to commemorate the golden jubilee year of the state. By announcing the grand celebration plans, the party has tried to be a step ahead of the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), which has also announced its plans to celebrate the occasion. In a press conference convened at a five star hotel in Bandra Kurla Complex, Uddhav said that he has a big line up of programmes to make it an unprecedented celebration. “We will announce them over time,” he said.

It has, among other things, planned a blood donation. Although Uddhav refused to elaborate on the details, he said it would be ‘Mahaydnya’ in the memory of the martyrs who laid there lives for a unified Maharashtra.  He also announced a grand celebration on May 1 at Shivaji Park, where Lata Mangeshkar would sing a song about her home state.
