“Politics is a art of possibilities”, stated Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, speaking on the power sharing of parties after the corporation elections.

Chavan was in Nashik on Wednesday evening to inaugurate the 55th All India Police Duty Meet (AIPDM), hosted by Maharashtra Police Academy (MPA) in the city.

Chavan added that the party leaders will analyse the results post elections.

“We have accepted the verdict of the people and we shall analyse what went wrong (with reference to Nashik)”, Chavan said while speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the meet.

On Bombay High Court ordering an enquiry in the case of Congress leader Krupashanker Singh, Chavan said, “I am yet to see the court verdict. I understand that the court has asked for an independent enquiry and we shall follow the court verdict.”

Chavan added, “I am aware that Singh has already submitted his resignation to central authorities, owning to the responsibility of the defeat of Congress in the corporation elections. I however, do not know if it has been accepted.”

The chief minister inaugurated the 55th All India Police Duty meet. Teams from 28 states with a total of 928 participants are competing at the meet in various areas of investigation. This includes police photography and videography, computer awareness, cyber crime investigation, dog squad investigation, and anti sabotage checks.

The concept of police duty meet was introduced in 1953 by central ad-hoc committee of the All India Sports Organisation under the aegis of central home ministry in form of rifle and revolver shooting competitions.

Over the years the scope of the meet was widened and the Central coordinating committee for organising the meets redefined and modified the areas of competition to include more work performance enhancements and to bring together all police departments from the country to share and discuss their work experiences, problems, arrive at possible solutions.

Since 1958, the government started felicitating police personnel for their exemplary work in saving people’s lives with a Prime Minister’s Police Medal for Life Saving.

This year 18 police personnel will be awarded the honour. Addressing the participants, Chief Minister Chavan said, “This is an important meet as various skills associated with police investigation are tested. This is an occasion not only to compete but also to learn."

Chavan said, “Police forces in the country and Maharashtra have undergone a modernisation drive in the recent past. Funds have been allocated from the centre and state to strengthen the police force in the state with modernization of motor vehicle fleets, armoured vehicles, computerization, ammunition, communication equipment, as well as for police housing and welfare."
