Just days before the February civic election, the water crisis in Model Colony has worsened. Irked citizens have been complaining about the water shortage in the locality for the last 8 months. Residents have filed as many as 67 complaints with the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), but to no avail.
According to the Model Colony Parisar Mandal, areas like Gokhalenagar Road, Om Super Market and Ghole Road are the worst hit. Several offices in this area were also affected due to insufficient water supply.
Shyamala Desai, a resident of Model Colony said, “The civic body has turned a blind eye to the problem. Besides, we are wary of relying on water tankers due to fear of contamination.” The residents of Model Colony have decided to appeal to all residents to not pay any municipal taxes this April, she added.
When contacted, superintendent engineer of the water supply department, Pradeep Beldar said, “The water supply to Model Colony was affected as the Parvati water treatment plant was closed for two days and there was no electricity supply.”
According to Beldar, “The municipal corporation cannot supply water to higher floors; we have the permission to supply water only to ground floors. All the people who are complaining about scanty water supply live on first or second floors. The residents will have to make some arrangement for pumping up water.”
