Water being released from dams in Maharashtra

The local administration in Western Maharashtra and Konkan has begun to discharge water from dams as heavy rains continued to lash the region.

Official sources said 1,30,625 cusec of water was discharged from the Koyna dam in Satara district while 10,400 cusec was released from the Radhanagari dam and 8200 cusec from Doodhganga in Kolhapur district.

Six gates of the Koyna dam were opened which caused flooding in the low lying areas. Sources said the administration was taking stock of the situation.

From Bhatsa dam in Thane district,3836 cusec of water was discharged while 1766 cusec was released from Suryadhamni dam and 706 cusec from the Vaitarna dam.

Heavy rains have caused flooding in Ratnagiri and Rajapur in the Konkan region.  However, there has been no loss of life or property, sources said. Only traffic has been paralaysed.
