Sukhilal Yadav, a watchman, let his honesty rule over greed.
He returned a lost purse containing cash and valuables to its owner.

On April 25, Neelu, the wife of Col Jasjit Singh, a blood cancer specialist of Command Hospital, dropped her purse as they were getting out of the car while visiting the East End restaurant in Camp for dinner.

Yadav, who is a watchman at Talwalkar gym, located opposite the East End restaurant, found the purse on the road.

“There were Rs1200, some valuables, ATM card, Canteen Stores Department (CSD) smart card and an expensive watch in the purse. I couldn’t sleep and decided to find the purse’s owner,” he said. The 32-year-old located the military cantonment address from the CSD smart card the following morning, but there was no contact number on it.

Neelu Singh was surprised to see two persons and her lost purse on Tuesday afternoon. “When I lost the purse, I was very upset as it also contained ATM card and passbook,” she told DNA.

“I appreciate his honesty as he came all the way searching for my address. I gave him Rs500 as a gesture of appreciation.”

Col Singh said, “When we realised that the purse was missing, we checked in the car and the restaurant but couldn’t find it. So I thought she must have left it at home.”

Commending Yadav’s gesture, Singh said, “It clearly indicates that honesty still prevails in society, where the rich are trying to become richer by doing wrong deeds.”
