Wanted criminal found dead on hill in Thane

Body of a notorious criminal in Thane, wanted in cases of attempt to murder, was found dumped on a hill in Thane. Police suspect it to be a murder.

The deceased has been identified as one Yakul Sonaji Ranshoor, 36, a resident of Titwala near Kalyan.

Police said that it was on July 8 that they first located a highly decomposed body of an unidentified person lying in the nullah of the Mama Bahca hill, under the jurisdiction of Shree Nagar police. The face of the deceased carried wounds, they added.

Police had nitially registered a case of accidental death and started investigations into the case. However, it was yesterday that they finally managed to identify the victim, who turned out to be a wanted criminal, after which they converted the case into one of murder and started investigating further.

Police inspector GL Kamble from Shree Nagar police station, said that the dead was a history sheeter and had a number of serious crimes against him, including those of 307 (attempt to murder) and rioting.

He however said that the motive behind the brutal killing and dumping of the body in the hills is still unknown.

Ironically enough, since the last about one month, incidents of murders and abandoned bodies at isolated places, are on the rise in Thane.

Earlier, body of a nine-year-old girl was found lying in the Yeoor hills in Thane. Later, in two separate incident, bodies of youths were found in the bushes at isolated places in Daighar and Yeoor hills in the district.
