The police have substantiated Karan Kakkar’s family’s claim that Karan Sood, a rich man with the looks of a model, would regularly visit the producer in a white luxury car prior to his murder. The police on Wednesday said it was not a Jaguar as claimed by Kakkar’s family, but an Audi.

The police said stock broker Gautam Vora, arrested in connection with Kakkar’s murder, would visit the producer’s house at Oberoi Springs in Andheri in an Audi to meet Kakkar and his neighbour Simran Sood. Initially, the police believed Vijay Palande, an accused in the Arun Tikku and Kakkar murder cases, was Sood. However, now that theory appears to be wrong.

DNA reported earlier this month that Kakkar’s family said that the police theory that Palande was Karan Sood was untrue. “Palande does not fit the description given by my brother about Karan Sood.

He told us that Sood was tall and extremely good-looking, like a model. We doubt the police theory that Palande and Sood are the same people,” Karan Kakkar’s elder brother Hanish told DNA.

“We have learnt that Vora used to visit Oberoi Springs in a white Audi which belonged to one of his friends. But it is not clear why he used his friend’s car when he himself owns many cars. We will record his friend’s statement and confront Palande on the Karan Sood issue,” said a crime branch officer.

Vora is a regular on the party circuit and is also being questioned again in connection with the suicide of his girlfriend, model Viveka Babajee. He was also allegedly involved in a relationship with Simran.

The officer said Simran introduced Palande to Kakkar and Vora, saying he was her brother. She introduced Kakkar to Vora as her friend. It has also come to light that Simran demanded Rs7 lakh from Vora, saying she wanted to start some business with a friend. Vora helped her financially. The police are now trying to find out Vora’s relationship with Simran.

Meanwhile, Palande and two others - Dhananjay Shinde and Manoj Gajkosh - have been rearrested in connection with Kakkar’s murder. In a related development, assistant commissioner of police Arvind Mahabdi, who was making inquiries into Palande’s escape from a police van earlier this month, submitted his report to senior officers on Wednesday.
