Supermodel blamed Gautam Vora for her death, but cops didn’t check if
writing was her’s.
Two years after the alleged suicide of supermodel Viveka Babajee, a glaring oversight has surfaced in the investigation carried out by the Khar police. The diary entry and possible suicide note written by Babajee was not sent to handwriting experts for their opinion. Sources said that this will now be done in the coming few days.
Babajee had hung herself at her rental accommodation in Bandra (West) in 2010. Next to her body, the police found Babajee's diary with the words "U killed me Gautam Vora" scribbled in it.
Subsequently, the Khar police recorded stockbroker Vora's statement to ascertain the cause that had driven Babajee to end her life. However, Vora was not found guilty and released.
According to sources, during the investigation, the Khar police relied on the statements of Babajee's friends and assumed that the handwriting was Babajee's. However, after it recently came to light that Vora was dating model Simran Sood at the time and Babajee was aware about their relationship which could possibly have driven her to take the extreme step, the police began their review of the Babajee suicide case on April 25.
The police will now rectify the error by sending the diary entry for handwriting analysis to ascertain whether the said note was indeed written by Babajee. Confirming this, deputy commissioner of police, Zone IX, Pratap Dighavkar said, "The case is still under scrutiny and the note will be sent to handwriting experts for their opinion."
But the reason why this procedure was not undertaken two years ago by the police, who instead relied upon Babajee's friends claiming it was her handwriting, is still unclear. Senior officers said the matter is still under review and it would not be appropriate for them to comment at this stage.
