The investigating officials on Monday realised that it was US national Viral Goradia's friends who gave a fake address of his accommodation to mislead the police out the fear of getting into trouble.
In a case of drunken driving, Goradia, 27, was injured and his Juhu-based friend, Dhwani Cheda, was killed when their Honda City car rammed into the divider at Kherwadi junction last week.
The police were told that Goradia who is based in US, had come to the city few days ago and was put up at Farriyas hotel in South Mumbai. However no such records of his staying were found at the hotel.
Garodiya met with an accident while he was driving under the influence of alcohol and their car overturned after hitting a divider in Kherwadi junction at Western Express Highway, Bandra (East).
The incident took place on wee hours of Friday when Garodiya was heading towards Ville Parle after coming from party in South Mumbai. Cheda was declared dead before admission, while Goradiya was shifted to Lilawati hospital on Friday night due to internal bleeding.
