The all-party Vidarbha Rajya Sangram Samiti (VRSS) has convened a meeting of its district-level office-bearers here on March 17 to discuss preparations for the `jail bharo' agitation on March 23.
The samiti activists would court arrest in support of their demand to grant statehood to Vidarbha.
Speaking to the media here, VRSS leader and former MP Prakash Ambedkar said future activities of the committee after March 23 would also be discussed in the meeting.
A meeting of VRSS was held yesterday after which MPs Vilas Muttemwar and Datta Meghe, ex-MPs Prakash Ambedkar and Jambuwantrao Dhote and ex-Minister Ranjit Deshmukh addressed the media.
Ambedkar said VRSS strongly opposed grant of extension to Vidarbha Statutory Development Board (VSDB). "We do not want extension of the VSDB, but we want a Vidarbha state."
The leaders also flayed the Maharashtra government's decision to give sanction to 47 power plants in the region.
They charged that it was a conspiracy by leaders of western Maharashtra to turn Vidarbha into a desert.
They demanded that central government should not clear any projects until Vidarbha state was formed.
