The Maharashtra government has decided to reimburse Rs30,000 to German Bakery terror blast victim, Saqr Al Bethany, 28, towards medical expenses that were wrongly claimed from him by the city-based Surya Hospital.

The Pune district collectorate has decided to deduct Rs30,000 from the amount claimed by Surya Hospital towards treatment of German Bakery victims and pay the Yemeni national the amount that is due to him.

In its exclusive report on December 14, 2010, ‘Surya Hospital billing to be investigated’, DNA had reported how the hospital had claimed medical expenses from the victim despite clear government directives against doing so.

The report also highlighted the plight of the youth, who had complained that for nearly eight months, the hospital authorities were not attending to his repeated requests for reimbursement.

It was only after a series of reports in DNA that the matter was taken up by the district administration and justice was assured to Al Bethany.

An official dealing with medical expenses of the blast victims told DNA that the amount due to Al Bethany would be deducted from the approximately Rs2-lakh claim made by Surya Hospital.
