While chatting with the policemen, the ambulance driver (name withheld as he is a witness) mentioned that the earlier day he had got a call from a man from the area who claimed his wife was dead and wanted an ambulance to take her body to a cemetery.
But, when he asked the caller if he had completed the hospital and police procedures, he cut the call.
“We traced the number, found the culprits and identified the woman,” said senior inspector Nandkumar Mehter of the Versova police station.
The police arrested Krshanashu Sharma, a film and model coordinator, and charged him with Sunita Singh’s murder. They also caught Sharma’s driver Ashish and Sunita’s 14-year-old daughter Sushma (name changed) and charged them with destroying evidence.
While Sunita lived in Mohit Tower in Oshiwara, Sharma lives nearby in Neptune building. Police sources claimed that Sharma had adopted Sushma as Sunita, who was also a model coordinator, was suffering from a terminal disease.
When Sunita found out that Sharma had pushed Sushma into flesh trade, sources claimed, she wanted a share in her daughter’s earnings.
On February 22, Sunita and Sharma had an argument and in a fit of rage, he allegedly killed her with a sharp object. He panicked and left her there.
On February 24, he reportedly returned to the flat with Sushma and Ashish. “While the men wrapped the body in bed sheets and stuffed it in a gunny bag, Sushma kept a watch outside,” said a source. The men dumped the body in Versova.
Sharma has criminal cases registered against him at various police stations in the western suburbs.
