Vegetable prices soar in Pimpri-Chinchwad

'Due to the recent hike in diesel prices, almost all vegetables have become costlier by Rs40 to Rs50 per kg,' says a vendor.

Prices of vegetables have also soared in the markets in Pimpri-Chinchwad. The vendors have blamed the rise in fuel prices for the hike in the prices.

A vendor of Pimpri-based Indira Gandhi bhaji mandai said, "Due to the recent hike in diesel prices, almost all vegetables have become costlier by Rs40 to Rs50 per kg. The prices are constantly increasing. Customers prefer to buy cheaper vegetables since last two or three days.''

Laxman Gaikwad, a vegetable vendor from Akurdi vegetable market, said some vendors refrained from buying huge quantities of vegetables from the wholesale market due to the high prices.

Housewives are peeved about the rising prices. Varsha Kothari, a resident of
Akurdi-Pradhikaran, said, "The fuel hike has upset our budgets. It is difficult to deal with the situation.''
