The University of Pune is declaring the master of commerce (MCom) and engineering results online this year for the first time. The move aims at limiting scope for human interference and tampering with results in the examination department.

Deputy registrar Vitthal Sathe told DNA, “This is part of the examination reforms in the varsity. To bring in more transparency and use of latest technology, we for the first time put the results of MCom and engineering students on our website www.unipune.ac.in.”

“We have 23,000 MCom students, 36,000 of second year engineering and 32,000 of third year engineering,” he said. The students will be able to see their results on the website.

“They will get a copy of their mark sheet in their respective colleges,” he said. On the website, they will know their marks and class.

Some departments have grade system, he added, “The grade system is not uniform in the university since a few departments have it and some don’t. Besides giving a transparent result, this system will ensure that results are declared faster. We are planning to make the hall ticket available online. The students will have to download it, take a printout and get it stamped by the college. Pune university would probably be the first to introduce such a system.”

Among other reforms are stopping outsourcing of work in the exam department such as data entry and printing of question papers. A database of teachers and evaluators is also being prepared online, he added.

Reforms in the examination section have been long-pending and the first step would be to complete computerisation.

Declaring the results on the website was the first step in that direction.
